Setember 4, 2021

White Dog has a very refined palate thanks in part to Richard, a classically trained chef who, in WD's puppyhood, regularly came over and with Steve made the most incredible meals always with "a little something" especially for My Girl.

Brillat-Savarin aged and imported French is her favorite cheese. She absolutely loves duck tagine. Baby lamb chops glazed with sour cherries makes her swoon. If it is one of my Hungarian grandmother's recipes that involves butter, paprika and rich gravy, there is no need to call her twice for dinner.

White Dog's diversity gets a bit tested with things from the sea. Eel, OK but only grilled. Mussels, sorry no. Octopus is too chewy. Shrimp, she could easily make herself pink. Most fish, a few bites suffice unless there is an interesting sauce. But scallops? We honestly could not remember.

When Steve served dinner of sea scallops sauteed in lime, ginger and soy sauce he added a couple of extra to his plate but said, "I doubt White Dog will be interested in these. She hs already eaten her dinner and is waiting with the others for their nightly ice cream with peanut butter." I looked over at My Girl resting next to him and raised an eyebrow.

Steve sliced a beautiful disc of scallop and offered it to her. "It is fine if you say no," he started but had no time to finish before she swallowed and lifted her head for more. Put scallops on White Dogs 'I Love It!' list....she ate the three Steve had for her (I think he only had planned on two) and gratefully took the two additional plump beauties I transferred to Steve's plate for her enjoyment...

...and she STILL had room for four bites of ice cream. "Dr. Julia said I can eat anything I want," she reminds us at times like these and I am thankful for extra calories that she has consumed.
