White Dog is unquestioningly a picky (although she prefers the term "discerning") girl. We accept that she has very firm boundaries on likes and dislikes...from foods to socks. But we sometimes forget that the rest of the White Dog Army, whether by example or predisposition, have their OWN moments.

Bailey brought something of a questionably edible nature from somewhere and stood with her head in the crate and her body blocking what she was devouring. When she walked away nothing remained except a big greasy smear that attracted the interest of every other pup in the house. The spot resisted coming clean.

I feared whatever it was would attract ants so I asked Steve to bring one of the no longer used mattresses from storage. The perfect fit was from Roman's old crate before he moved into a suite sized accomodation a couple of months ago. We took Bailey's old disgusting mat to the garbage bin and installed the repurposed one.

And the drama began.

Mind you, in its previous life this mattress was not shunned. Roman slept in the crate at night on top of it, but Opal and Bailey never hesitated to settle in for an after breakfast or hanging with momma nap. It was just another comfy place to rest.

Except now. Bailey came trotting into the room turned to enter her bed and froze in shock. She stood and stared for quite some time before heading out to the yard. Opal, too sniffed and looked uncomfortable; she chose to lie in front of the crate. Zsofia would not even go past the change...she jumped up on the bed using it as a bridge to get around the offending bed and out of the dog door.

At bedtime, Bai crammed herself into a tight little ball to fit in Zso's bed with her. Opal chose to stay on the floor by the door instead of seeking the comfort of the plush mattress. Each time  I woke during the night, the sleep spot was vacant and when I awoke there was no pup snoozing there as they waited for me.

White Dog, over breakfast, laughed. "You know know how we can be, momma. Sometimes we do not run wildly and embrace change. Just ignore the whole thing and you will see by the weekend ONE of us will have broken the new thing barrier."

I offered her a bit of scone. "I live in a house full of Goldilockes."
