White Dog has developed a little ritual for when we are all going out in the car. She sits and actively listens as she receives the news of an impending car trip; she cocks her head to one side and gazes intently until we are done speaking then she springs into action. White Dog rushes into the bedroom to help Steve gather socks and shoes that we humans often need to don and then she waits on the leash car. Impatient at our progress, she paces and prods with her nose. As Steve helps me with my shoes, White Dog uses my outstretched legs as a hurdle leaping back and forth over us as we try to dress. My sliding arms into a jacket is her signal to scratch at the door and to look over her shoulder at Steve to get the car ready for me. They go out and start the engine, reposition the car so that it is more accessible for me and open my door. White Dog sits in my seat wagging her tail and yipping "hurry-up" encouragement as I slowly do the stairs and climb into the car. She scoots over at the very last minute and woofs impatiently for Steve to get in and get going. It is not until the car has backed down the drive and is moving forward that White Dog relaxes and begins to enjoy the journey. We all agree nothing is better than a family car ride.

Please visit Scarlet at animaldoctor.blogspot and offer support and encouragement. After all she and her family and all of us have done to get her wheelchair; it is being held up in customs who are demanding additional fees. We haven't all come this far to get her wheels to quit now! Together we can do anything!

Also, I know the economy is bad and there are lots of needy souls out there but One of Khyra's KHAT friends Edda Puss and her mom will be blogging for Haiti this coming weekend. Please check out Jen's Blog for details - including why she is doing and what she plans to do during the event! Do what you can, please.

Family car rides are so much fun!!! I am keeping my paws crossed that Scarlet will get her wheelchair soon. Fees and more fees, will they ever end?!

What a funny ritual - although I like the picture of her trying to get everyone to get moving it is so funny and just shows how excited she is to go in the car (boy it is nothing like that with the cats).

We don't know Scarlet but we will stop by and say hello - it sounds like there has been quite an ordeal for her so far.

Siku - it's SO hard to wait patiently for our humans to get their stuff together, isn't it?? I get so excited when I know we are going for a car ride that it is really, really hard for me to be still enough to let mommy put my harness on me. Then the parents seem to take F O R E V E R gathering their trinkets before we can head out. Once in the car, it seems like hours before we are all buckled in and we head off toward the park by our house. Once there, I always have a few doggies that I must bark at to tell them the "news", and then off we go! I can't wait until we can go for a car ride together!!!!! Soon, I hope!

hey Siku Marie,

I LOVE car rides. I don't get them enough, though, because I am so big. As if that should matter! Anyway, your ritual is so funny! What a fun, creative pup you are to put such an involved ritual in place, and to make sure every thing is going smoothly!

I will keep my paws crossed for Scarlet. Thank you for sharing her story. And thanks also for sharing about Jen's blogging for Haiti. What a wonderful thing to do to help!

Suka

p.s. Thank you for your very kind, concerned, and wise words today on my blog. Your comment, "The grass may be greener over there but everything that is truly important in life can be found right in your own backyard" really touched my Malamute heart and made a lot of sense. Thank you!!

Angel dog is really good at riding in the car. Princess on the other hand prefers to hop up and down running from window to window. It never fails that everyone in the car is covered in white floof before we get a mile from the house. And God forbid if she sees an Eskie in another car because she starts shreeking
