April 16, 2010

White Dog, no question, is one very over-indulged girl. She knows it; we know it; everyone who knows us, knows it. When White Dog was a pup taking car rides or traveling with us, we often found ourselves in situations when we did not have a water bowl for her. From that was born her being allowed to drink from my glass (but only when offered). She exhibits party manners and sits politely and daintily laps the top surface of the water. She is an Eskie with a fox-like, lithe body type and movements.

But now we are two.

Quinn is the bear-body type of Eskie, soft and cuddly and not as light on his feet. His snout is shorter and wider. White Dog is Quinn's mentor/trainer and from her he has learned the rhythm of life at our house, what to expect, and what the limits are. He often learns just by copying her. Quinn has been fascinated with White Dog's "special license" to drink from a tumbler and has finally gotten enough courage to ask to try. He sits (as she does) but plunges his snout deeply into the glass until he becomes constrained, muzzled, and the liquid has surged up and out of the vessel. He pulls his face out snorting and grunting and looks puzzled about why things seem to work so differently when his sister drinks.

It is not enough to deter him, though, tonight he watched White Dog and tried yet again. Did I mention Eskies are stubborn?

Moma is picturing the bubbles that must come rising up from the glass! And the wet snout, when pulling it out. You've reminded her of her first wire, Kizzy, who so loved water that she would seek any and all that might be in the house. Not with a picture of grace, but certainly one of joy. It sounds like your home just keeps getting richer and richer.

Enjoy your weekend...

Way to go, Quinn. Practice makes perfect. I've gotten the drink out of a cup thing down but Sierra still needs a lot more practice.

Oh my goodness little Quinn. I'm sure with plenty of practice you will learn how to drink just as your sister does. Mom used to let isis drink from her glass, share her food, all that good stuff. Of us however, only hansel has been given that right. Pretty much because if he wants something... he pretty much just takes it.

He will figure it out - boys just take longer:)

Seriously, Mom is convinced that Ciara has been such an easy puppy because she learns from the boys.

Hey, sorry BFF - I thought I had left a message, but I don't see it. What I think I said was that I would love it if you could teach me how to teach brother how to drink even a BOWL of water without it being all over him - he is soooo messy with water - I'm open to your wisdom!!!
