March 3, 2011

White Dog hopes everyone will join her, Quinn, Nuka, Puff and all of the humans for a very special event. Tomorrow, Friday, March 4 has been designated a Day of Peace. Started on Facebook with hopes of spreading around the globe, it is the brainchild of Stephen D. Shoemaker, a 17 year-old, and now has over 1 million people committed to a day of peace. For just one day he asks “ that we hold our tongues. A day where we ignore others' shortcomings and made a valiant effort to be kind and understanding. ...A day where we all get along.” The White Dog Army wishes that a special day was not needed but as Quinn points out, “one day is a start!”

Shoemaker’s proposition is simple:
One day, March 4th, we all stick to three simple rules that will make the world a little bit more bearable.

Rule #1. Say not a single unkind thing about anyone or anything. If at all possible, try not to even think a nasty thought. If we do, reflect on why it was that we thought to say it in the first place.

Rule #2. Show everyone we cross paths with some genuine human compassion. Be it with a smile or kind words, just spread some love.

Rule #3. Make not one person the exception to the rule. Not everyone deserves to have roses thrown at their feet and have a holiday in their honor, but nobody deserves to feel alone. Reach out. Talk to someone new. Care about them, and we will be cared for in return.

Are you up for the challenge? The White Dogs and everyone here are going to make a vigorous effort to do this. We ask you to join us in the attempt.

Stephen hopes, “This can be big. If we all band together, well, maybe we can all start living a little bit nicer lives. Maybe this won't work for more than one day; maybe it will. I honestly don't know what will happen, but what I do know is this: if we can get at least one day of happiness and peace out of this, well, I'd more than consider that a success.”

This is not intended to be a "Let's be nice for one day and go back to our old ways the day after" kind of thing. It is meant to give us all a little more incentive to be better people.
This is not a hippie or a religious movement. This is just an attempt at brightening the world up a bit.

You have no reason why you can’t do it. None of us do.
Thank you all for your kind words, support, and enthusiasm,
~Stephen Shoemaker

Please help this message spread to as many as possible. Come on fellow bloggers! We already regularly practice such kindness and compassion that one day of following these simple rules should be a cake walk! (And yes, momma is making cake for us to share with everyone who joins in this celebration of goodness)!

hey White Dog Army,

I am so there! What a brilliant idea! I had not heard of this, so I will be sure to spread the word to the animals, and my human K will spread the word to the humans. How wonderful would it be if this took off and the positive energy totally destroyed all the negative! Love and Peace - can't get any better than that!

Thank you for taking the time to spread the word. I look forward to tomorrow, and many more millions of days of Peace!

Suka (and K!)

p.s. and you are having what kind of cake...?? ;->

I totaly didnt know about this and what a wonderful thing. If everyone just stops and thinks for a moment before doing or saying something bad then that is an acheivement.Mum always says stop and count to ten before you say a bad thought and it can help so much. Enjoy the cake .. Love the picture of you all together, can we get a front looking one please.. Hugs GJ xx
