White Dog had been listening along with the rest of the White Dog Army for several minutes before she turned to me. "I love you, momma, but truth be told we would be absolutely lost without dad." "Thanks Little One, that makes me feel good!" Steve had already left for work so I was spared the ignominy of her announcement. I could tell the noise was bothersome to the others who had been awakened rudely from their nap when it started.

"Realistically, YOU aren't going to climb on the roof and fix the squeaking swamp cooler bearing," she persisted. "No, you are right, I m not." I got up to leave the room. "Where are you going?" The White Dog Army got up to follow me. "I am going to turn off the cooler so none of us will be tortured by the chirping."
There was a chorus of "Don't do that! It is hot outside and if you turn off the cooler the hot will come inside!" It was warm but under 100 and we do have a lovely collection of fans, both ceiling and floor so we would generate some air movement; in other words it was a survivable situation.

"Look, you all have to make a choice and either way you will be discomforted. You can live with the birdsong and be cool or get rid of the noise and be warm. So think about it and decide." With that I huffed myself into the bathroom and shut the door in their faces.

I heard Quinn in the hallway talking to WD, "You were kind of mean. I think you hurt momma's feelings." I ran the water so they would not think I was listening in. When I came out I asked, "What has the Army decided? Quiet or Cool?" They looked at each for a final confirmation and Oso responded, "Cool."

The squeak has been intermittent and annoying but the WDA has not complained as they enjoyed the chilled air drifting down. Steve WILL have to visit the roof early tomorrow morning to either grease or replace the offending bearing. He will get the version of the story without the insult.

White Dog sat in my lap this evening and tried to mend her gaffe. I saw the regret in her eyes and kissed her head. "Don't fret Child of My Heart, you are forgiven."

Ahhh, little bit of a sassy one that White Dog? BOL! I can't imagine any Eskies taking the fans over the swamp cooler any day. Squeaky or not!
