White Dog said softly, "It is OK to be sad today, momma. I understand. But I beg you to remember the REAL significance of this day is a celebration of something wonderful and full of joy."

Today would have been The Mighty Quinn's fourth Gotcha Day. Except he left us in August. "think about his coming to us, momma," White Dog urged, "not his leaving."

It is almost impossible for me to recognize that he was only with us such a short time, he had such an impact. The Other White Dog invented the White Dog Army. He mentored Michael on how a rescue learns to love and trust. Quinn taught us how to have grace under attack and how to be strong against all odds. Was it really only such a short time? "But momma, think of all the amazing memories...we shared such an incredible journey," White Dog whispered.

In the mornings, especially when the cancer had nearly won, he and I would spend time nested together waiting for Steve to join us and give our boy a heat massage. Not a morning goes by that I don't feel a pull to curl up across the bed like we used to and wrap my arms around his trusting body. I am afraid on some level that he is now whole and free and doesn't remember. "He remembers, momma. Love is forever."

White Dog continued, "Quinn did not leave because he wanted to. His body failed and he had to. For him heaven won't be perfect until we are all with him again and the White Dog Army including you and dad and Michael are part of his life again. Gotcha means just that...got you. your body, your heart, your life, your soul...for always."

I looked at my wise girl and smiled my thanks. "Happy Gotcha Day, Mighty Quinn Marie Sehi-Smith! Thanks for coming into my life. Know you are cherished for all time."
