December 3, 2019

White Dog and Steve were enjoying the last bites f her dinner on the sofa in the living room when Tizenegy walked out of the kitchen smacking his lips...and collapsed. His rear legs just gave out under him. He did not faint; was not having a seizure; was not in any pain. He just suddenly could not stand.

Steve carried him in and gently laid him on his bed. I called out instructions. No, there did not seem to be any muscle tone (his legs did not push back when flexed). His muscles were not hard like they would be if cramping. Steve felt along the legs, across the hips and up his spine; Tiz did not wince or cry out. He had free movement of his neck and head.

We administered some discus compositum and made the decision to wait a bit before rushing to the ER. Two hours later our Boy was up asking for a walk (only down the drive) and able to line up for treats. We left a message at the vet's office and made plans to go first thing in the morning.
Tizenegy was fine all night. The vet office called first thing to tell us Dr. Julia would not be in but her associate would see him at 9:30 and share her findings with Dr. Julia.

We have a series of X-rays of our boy because of his right front leg and he has shown no signs of arthritis. Dr. Bingham X-rayed his spine and back end and drew blood to run a CBC. Turns our Tizenegy has been hiding what we think is a congenital hip dyplasia issue which has become severe. "He does a great job compensating with his front end," Dr. Bingham told Steve. "The front is well developed and very sturdy. But the back is weak." She was glad to hear that he already took glucosamine and added vetprofen to his medications. The bloodwork will be back at the end of the week and she had already set aside time to sit with Dr. Julia and review Tizenegy's case.

In the meantime, the problem has not reoccurred. Steve just to provide more traction bought his helper leather moccasins for his back feet but so far Tiz has only been interested in sniffing and licking, not wearing them.
